A monumental, original antique 1916 French World War 1 era poster titled, "L'Emprunt De La Defense Nationale" (Subscription Loan for the Defense of France) by Jules Abel Faivre (1867-1945). The image refers to the allied countries, as represented by the flags, defeating the Prussians, symbolized by the bowing soldier dressed in grey wearing the his distinctive helmet. Archivally mounted and framed in a black wood frame surrounded by a linen liner and protected behind plexiglass. As you can see in the detail photos, this poster suffered tears and water damaged but was professionally conserved at some point in the 20th century. The imperfections add to the age and history of this stunning antique poster. The poster itself measures 31.5"high x 45"wide. The outside of the frame measures 38" x 51.5" x 1". In as found condition, conserved and framed. Tears and damage to the paper has been stabilized and mounted in conservation friendly materials. The frame, linen liner and plexiglass is in good condition and ready to hang.
