An absolutely charming antique late 1800s or early 1900srustic French pine and hardwood console table with turned legs. The base is pine while the top is mixed hardwoods, perhaps indicating that it was used as a worktable in an old French kitchen. When found this table was in rough condition so it was distress painted white in an antique manner and ornamented with a blue trompe-l'oeil greek key motif. Because the white paint is modern there is no worry of lead paint, as is the problem with old furniture painted white.
Because this is an old table and it was used in a kitchen setting it is rustic... with a swayed top and is slightly cupped in the center, see side view photos. The legs are slightly askew but strong. The painted surface is distressed throughout, particularly on the top, see photos, but has been sealed with a water-based varnish to provide a smooth hand feel and prevent paint flaking. This is a stunning piece and could be used in a large kitchen as a bar, as a kitchen island, as a server in a dining room or in a hallway or entryway. If you didn't mind the occasional knees knocking you could use this as a long rustic dining table in a narrow space!
Measures 32.75"H x 95"L x 19.75"D
Condition commensurate with age and use. This was a rustic, functional piece when it was created for a French country kitchen. The distress painting elevates this piece but still maintains the rustic nature for which the piece was created. The table structure is strong and sturdy despite slightly askew turned legs and a swayed top. Please note the imperfections in the wood including old stable repairs, old inactive wormholes, random cracks and scratches.
