A highly collectible antique early 20th century hand-woven silk ikat songket head cloth with gold thread embroidery from the Palembang region, Sumatra, Indonesia. This textile would have been worn as a head cloth or hung in a wedding to display wealth. This textile has such a fine weave and would have taken months to create by a skilled weaver and embroiderer. This songket form is very rare and sought after by collectors of Southeast Asian textiles.
Condition commensurate with age and use. This is an old textile but still strong and not brittle. Note the staining, creasing, fraying and imperfections in the fabric and embroidery. It could be hung with proper support or framed and hung on a wall.
