A beautiful and skillfully painted antique early 1900s oil paint on wood panel of a Venetian market scene. Signed in the lower left by M.S. Loresen (?). The scene includes buildings with shutters, colonnades, awnings, baskets of vegetables in the background. In the foreground lower right is a standing younger woman with a hanging purse, conversing with an older woman who is seated next to baskets of oysters, perhaps. The panel is framed in a beautiful antique (likely original) walnut and gold leaf wide frame. On the back is an old piece of paper with information about the painting.
The painting is dark and could use a professional cleaning, or could be hung as is with proper lighting it is a striking painting with an appealing composition.
The outside of the frame measures 21.5"H x 15.25"W x 2.5"D. The painted panel measures 13.75"H x 8.5"W.
Condition commensurate with age and use. Scratches on the frame. There are tiny holds in corners of the wood panel. The painting is secure in the frame and ready to hang.
