A stunning antique Meiji period early 1900s Japanese Tansu chest with original hardware and working keys. Lacquered dark stained pine comprises the outside casework while oxblood lacquer keyaki wood was used to create the drawer fronts. Hardware is original and made of black iron. In addition to being highly decorative this chest of drawers offers a large amount of storage in eight drawers.

Keys are included for the large drawers and door. The key on the second drawer engages and locks easily. The other drawers sit slightly proud of the casework and therefore to not engage easily or at all. The key for the small drawers on the right side is missing.
Condition commensurate with age and use. Horizontal stable split in the second drawer, see photos. Random scratches and imperfections in the wood from use over a century, most notably on the top. Drawers sit slightly proud (less than 1/4") of the casework due to wood shrinkage.
