Vintage Large Korean (In the Japanese Style) 14 Drawer Tansu Chest With European Influence
A stunning vintage Korean (in the Japanese style) large elm (keyaki) tansu chest with original cast brass hardware. The hardware and linen chest pine sliding drawers show a European influence indicating that this cabinet may have been created for a European market or for export. Fourteen drawers offers a stunning amount of storage. The graining in the elm wood and the original finish is just beautiful. Disassembles into four pieces: frame base and three stacking cabinet portions. Retracting handles in the top of each cabinet portion enable easy disassembly, movement, and interlock with the cabinet portion above for stability when the cabinet is assembled.
Base frame: 3" high
Bottom cabinet: 18" high
Middle cabinet: 24" high
Top cabinet: 26.5" high
Please note the slight warping in the top two doors. The left one latches vertically but the left corner of the right door wings out slightly. See last photo.
Measures 71.25"high x 48.5"wide x 19"deep
Condition commensurate with age and use. Drawers sit slightly proud of the cabinet due to wood shrinkage. Splitting in the bottom of drawers due to wood shrinkage. Please note the slight warping in the top two doors. The left one latches vertically but the left corner of the right door wings out slightly. See last photo.
