A beautiful and unique antique Chinese Qing dynasty deep red lacquer side table or ladies' desk, dating from the late 1800s. The table is hand-carved and has five drawers, the drawer fronts expertly carved in the form of unfurled scrolls. Ornamenting the scrolls are hand-painted flowers, branches, and birds. Surrounding the legs are relief carved flowers and vines.
Measures 34.75"H x 36"W x 17.75"D
The drawers do not have pulls, instead you pull on the edges of the scrolls to open the drawers. At one time the center drawer had a key escutcheon but it is now missing and filled in. The red lacquer table top shows signs of wear which adds to the charm of this piece. Mortise and tenon joinery is evident throughout.
Condition commensurate with age and use. The structure of the table is strong and sturdy. The surface of the table top has slight separation between planks and areas of missing and discolored lacquer, see photos.
