A beautiful, atmospheric 19th century French romantic period forest scene with rocks and trees, oil paint on (Mullen) board signed E.S. Buffett, 1862 on the back. The colors in the painting are deep olive greens and browns accented by grays and warm browns. Framed in a gold period frame with an arched inset panel. Measures 17.75"H x 14.5"W x 1.25"D This painting is over 150 years old so it is not in perfect condition however the surface of the painting bears no noticeable losses. The frame has suffered sections of loss in the beading around the frame moulding, see photos. The wood on the side of the frame has scratches and nails that are not inset. The frame could be conserved or hung as is.
