This is an old carved singa from the Lake Toba region of Sumatra, Indonesia. This house panel has remnants of the original black and red paint under a very dark patina - probably soot. It measures 67" H x 17" W x 1" thick. There is an old repair where the bottom 6" has been replaced and recarved. This is easy to see in the back photo. The singa is found in many different shapes - they are all best described as house guardians. This one would have been place high above ground on the front of the house, under the eve.
